Start Your Online Business Step 4: Get Your Website

To run an online business you don’t need to be a tech expert, but you do need to have at least some website editing knowledge.

Here’s the easiest way to get started:

There’s something called WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) html editor.  Basically, there is a graphical interface and you type text and add tables, colors etc, and behind the scenes there is html code being generated for you.

As you go along, you can see webpages’ source code to see how they do things so you can keep learning. You can do that by going to “View” and then “Source” in Internet explorer for any website you would like. (Few exceptions are php pages but don’t worry about it)

Here are some good WYSIWYG html editors.

-Microsoft Frontpage
-Macromedia Dreamweaver

As I said, with an html editor you don’t have to be an html expert, as most of the code is being generated behind the scenes for you. Often times, it would help a lot to tweak some html by hand though.

Here are some example html tutorials that will help you immensely.

This is an ongoing learning process.  You won’t learn everything at once, but you should start learning immediately, and you’ll get better as you go.

I will keep saying this until it’s embedded in your brain.  Don’t wait for everything to be perfect.  It will never be.  Tomorrow will never come.  Stop procrastinating, and start doing something.  You can always improve on it later.

eBooks are one of the best and fastest selling items on eBay and if you do it right you can use the viral power of eBay to make thousands each and every month.

The most sought after item on the Internet is INFORMATION!  The Internet is the Information Superhighway!  People log onto the net because they want information.

To Start Your Online Business Step 2: Domain Name and Web Hosting

You need web hosting in order to upload your website to the internet. You will have to pay a monthly fee in order to have your website on the internet, but that fee can be as low as $10 a month.

You shouldn’t gamble with your online presence.  Don’t go with a free hosting, which will put flashy banners on your site, making it scream “amateur”.  You shouldn’t go with a $0.99 host either because their servers are probably overloaded with tons of people hosting every website under the sky for $1.  Overloaded servers, would mean that your website will be going down very often.

Instead, go with a reliable web host, with 99.9 uptime, excellent features and superb support, for less than $10/month: www.webhostingdoor.com

Note: never host with your domain registrar, because that way you have no control.

You need a domain name to have a small and professional web address that people can easily remember and visit your site any time they like.

You can a domain from Godaddy.com for less than $9/year:
http://www.godaddy.com

As mentioned above, hosting with your registrar (Godaddy) is a bad idea because they have control on both your domain and hosting and they can pull the plug any time.

For this reason it’s recommended you host with WebHostingDoor which specializes in web hosting, and only buy your domains from Godaddy, which specializes in domain registration.

Step 3: Get A Product

Start Your Online Business Step 1: online payments

To Start Your Online Business In 5 Simple Steps

Step 1: Get a payment processor to accept online payments

This is very important, as most of your customers will be paying by credit card. And the best part is, this can be done for free and in as little as a few minutes.

There are 2 types of payment processors that you can choose from:

a. 3rd party payments processors
b. Merchant accounts

As your business grows you might want to consider getting a merchant account. For now, it’s more cost-effective to get started with a 3rd party payment processor.

The most popular and credible 3rd party processors are the following:

1. Paypal

2. Clickbank

3. 2Checkout

Paypal is free.  It’s very good for one time payments; however, don’t even think about using it for taking subscription payments.  They have strict rules for 2tier or multi-tier affiliate programs, and they will freeze your account without warning if they think you are in violation of their terms.  It happened to me and I am now using them only for one time payments.

Clickbank

is free for getting an account and promote affiliate programs, but to sell a product you have to pay a one time $49.95 fee.  They are the best in my opinion, because they have a build in affiliate program, and you also get to list your product in their marketplace.   They have over 100,000 affiliates, so imagine the benefits of having tons of affiliates promoting your product, while you split the profits, on autopilot for you.

2Checkout: Like Clickbank you have to pay a one time $49 fee to use them.  I have been using them for over 6 months and I’m very happy with them.  They are also great for International users, who cannot get a Paypal or Clickbank account.  They are my preferred processor for subscription payments, since Clickbank only accepts one time payments.

I have accounts with all 3.  Each one has advantages and disadvantages over the others, so depending on what you are doing you have the options.

For example, if you are selling on eBay, then Paypal is a must.  If you want to write and sell an ebook with an affiliate program the best solution is Clickbank.  If you want to focus on recurring income with subscription payments, then you should go with 2checkout.
